Festival of Libraries’ 2022 – FREE Creative Teenage Events in Libraries

The Festival of Libraries has FREE activities and events available for various ages between 12-18 in late October. Please read below for details.
Manga Workshops Bolton

Wednesday 26th October and Thursday 27th October
Bolton Central Library and Museum (Le Mans Crescent, BL1 1SE)

Learn more about Manga, the distinctive and popular art of Japanese comics. Discover the basics of drawing in manga style and create your own manga characters. 

Join professional Japanese manga artist Inko Ai Takita for this fun filled 2-hour session.  

The sessions are free, and all materials will be provided. 

Your manga drawings may also be included in a special exhibition at the Manchester Festival of Libraries 2023. 

Spaces are limited to x10 people per session, so booking is essential.  

The sessions are aimed at 12-16 year olds, all under 16’s will need to provide a parents or carers email address during the booking process.

About Inko Ai Takita:
Inko was born in Kyoto, Japan. After Graduating Kyoto University of Art & Design, she moved to England and studied at Central Saint Martin’s college of Art & Design. Her works – crossovers of modern and traditional Eastern and Western cultures.  Her latest publications are available including “Learn Clip Studio Paint (2021, Packt)” and a manga adaptation of the world’s first novel   “Tale Of Genji (2022, Tuttle)”.

About Chie
Chie is UK based Japanese manga creator and illustrator. After graduating from Royal College of Art, London, she’s been creating many works, which are often very delicate and romantic in style. 

Her books are available at the most of English speaking countries. Also some of them are translated in Turkey, France, Italy and Spain. 

Besides creating manga comics, she also runs manga workshops at schools, universities, libraries, and museums, such as the British Museum, the British Libraries, the Royal Academy of Arts, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. She has worked on projects for several others including UK Japan Embassy, Iceland Japan Embassy, BBC, Channel 4, CNN, Wagamama, and Winsor & Newton.

Poetry Tik Tok with Oliver Sykes

Are you aged 13-16?
Would you like to develop your writing/performance skills?

Join award-winning children’s author and poet, Oliver Sykes, for a fun-filled poetry-writing/performance workshop.

  • Explore new ways of writing and performing poetry!
  • Create your own poem!
  • Have your work featured on Manchester City Of Literature’s TikTok Channel! (This is optional and parental consent for filming will be required during the booking process)

There will be x2 separate workshops, tailored towards writers of all abilities, building confidence, touching on skills and writing techniques covered in the national curriculum, and encouraging participants to be led by their own imagination and creativity.

Interested in making beats but don’t know where to start?
Or are you an aspiring beat maker looking to take your skills to the next level?

Join producer and lyricist, Yussuf Maleem, for a masterclass in turning ideas into beats. The session will cover the key components of production and sampling.

The sessions are free, and all materials will be provided. 

Your beats may also be included in a special musical event at the Manchester Festival of Libraries 2023.
