Manchester Literature Festival
A chilling evening of ghost stories and haunted pasts with internationally acclaimed Korean author Bora Chung (Cursed Bunny) and British novelist Susan Barker (The Incarnations), as they discuss their gripping new novels, The Midnight Timetable and Old Soul. Both tales explore the uncanny ways the past refuses to stay buried and the mysterious forces that connect us across time and continents.
In Bora Chung’s The Midnight Timetable (translated by Anton Hur), a novel told in ghost stories, an unnamed narrator begins to uncover the secrets of a bizarre research centre, guided by a night guard with stories to tell. In Susan Barker’s immersive Old Soul, two strangers meet in Osaka airport and discover their friends died in identical, gruesome ways, on opposite sides of the world but both linked by a mysterious dark-haired woman who appears before each death.
Presented in partnership with Waterstones Deansgate and supported by LTI Korea.
