Funding for Writers in Manchester

Got a great idea, but need some cash to get it off the ground?

There are various funding pots available to support writers of different disciplines. Some operate on a rolling basis, or have annual submission windows, others are more time limited.

Many of the funds listed below are not Manchester specific, but open to writers across the UK. The following list is by no means exhaustive, and – as always – be sure to read any eligibility guidelines carefully before applying for funding. Please also be aware that Manchester City of Literature is not responsible for managing any of these funds, and so we are unable to answer queries about them.

Salford Centenary Fund – a time limited fund to support community groups/organisations to host events and activity to celebrate 100 years since Salford officially became a City.

Arts Council England – a range of funds for both projects and professional development.

The Authors Foundation – to help develop works in progress.

The Peggy Ramsay Foundation – for playwrights, to afford them the time and space to write.

Grand Plan Fund – for artists of colour looking to make a leap in their creative practice.

Grants for Writers in Need – an emergency relief fund for writers.

Public Lending Right (PLR) – published authors can claim PLR from public library loans.
