MACFEST (Muslim Arts and Culture Festival)
Nadine will share her experiences as a BAME author navigating the challenges of getting published, and the profound joy of representing her cultural heritage through stories that celebrate identity, empathy, and belonging.
She will explore her creative process, discussing how she approaches writing about war, trauma, and other difficult themes — and why such stories are vital in children’s literature.
From picture books to graphic novels, Nadine’s work spans genres and age groups, always rooted in the belief that “the end of racism starts on the bookshelf.” She will also talk about experiences reading to children in refugee camps and discover why representation in children’s literature is not just important — it’s transformative.
Hosted by: Simon Guerrier, Writer, Producer, Author of “Sherlock Holmes – The Great War” (Titan, 2021) and Chair of the Books Committee for the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain
