About the Book:
From TS Eliot shortlistee comes an outstanding second collection reflecting further on growing up under the cloud of abuse and alcoholism, as well as the patterns that emerge within Carrick-Varty’s poetry itself as his work unfolds, and how the past shapes these future lives. Bold and unusual in form – comprised of three gripping and compelling long poems – it carries the reader along in a way that is highly unusual, unflinchingly looking at inheritance, pain and memory.
About the Author:
Joe Carrick-Varty is a British Irish poet whose work has appeared in the New Statesman, Granta and POETRY. His debut book, More Sky, was named a Best Poetry Collection of the Year by The Irish Times, won an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors, and was shortlisted for both the T.S. Eliot Prize and the Michael Murphy Memorial Prize. His second book, Before Violence, is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation.
