Bury Libraries & Read Manchester
Eevery child starting high school in September is gifted a free copy of the chosen Transition Read title. Primary schools in the summer term are encouraged to start to read the book with Y6 pupils and then the book continues to be explored and discussed when pupils start high school in September. Teaching resources are developed for teachers in both primary and high schools.
Quiet Storm by local author, Kimberly Whittam was chosen by reading ambassadors in one of our high schools in 2024. It has proved to be a powerful and popular book, with its themes of fitting in, friendships and finding your voice.
Kimberly says:
“I wrote Quiet Storm for children who struggle with shyness; children who don’t speak up, no matter how much they want to. It’s also a celebration of the chaotic yet joyous tribulations that occur every day in classrooms across the country.”
As part of Festival of Libraries, Kimberly is taking Transition Reads on tour around boroughs of Greater Manchester!
Please note this event is specifically for schools only and is invitation only.
