Bilingual poetry reading and discussion exploring creativity, contemporary writing and the challenges of translating poetry into English.

The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester invites you to the first session of its new series “Poetry Encounters”, featuring Spanish poet Abraham Gragera in conversation with poet and professor Brian Sneeden.

Poetry Encounters was created with the aim of promoting the translation of poetry from Spanish into English through a collaborative project involving translation students from the University of Liverpool.

The event will include a bilingual reading of poems by Abraham Gragera, followed by a conversation exploring his creative process, his trajectory as an author, and the challenges involved in translating his work into English. The dialogue between both poets will be open to audience questions, offering a unique opportunity to engage directly with their perspectives on poetry, translation, and contemporary literature.

The event will be held in English and is free to attend until full capacity is reached.
