The Bat-wing Box is an ingenious, beautiful, and very useful small box for holding all manner of small items. Developed by Dutch bookbinder Bep van Gesteren, this small oblong box with its integral lid opens across the diagonal to reveal a shallow rectangular tray.

Working with local bookbinder Barry Clark, you will use hand marbled paper, bookcloth, greyboard and elasticated cord to create a box that is both attractive and functional. A treat for yourself and/or an opportunity to make a unique christmas gift? Whilst your bat-wing box is drying we will make another ‘cracker’ for christmas!

All materials and tools will be provided, with extra sets of materials available enabling you to make more bat-wing boxes at home later. We will be using glue so a protective apron is recommended.

The fee includes the cost of materials, tuition, tea/coffee on arrival and a light lunch. This workshop is limited to 10 participants so early booking is advised.

£75. Reserve a space via emailing events@theportico.org.uk
