Now he turns his attention to the collapse of the three centuries- old Romanov dynasty through the lens of a figure who still exerts a macabre fascination on our collective imagination: Grigory Rasputin. Beevor’s compelling account asks: how could this largely illiterate self-styled holy man and healer have risen to such a position and diverted the course of twentieth century Russian history?
