Join travel writer Daniel Stables as he takes us on a journey through human festivity and introduces us to his new book — Fiesta: A Journey Through Festivity.
Told through colourful travel narratives set at some of the world’s most eye-catching festivals and interweaved with insights from the fields of anthropology, history, psychology, and folklore, the book examines why we celebrate festivals in the ways we do.
From drunken pilgrimages to sacrificial funerals, national days to neo-pagan necromancy, festivals represent human culture at its most vivid and varied, and the resulting account is both a rich collection of travel writing and an anthropological exploration of the roles that festivals play in society.
Daniel will discuss his inspirations for the book, share his insights into some of these wonderful festivals before answering any questions about both the book and his extensive travels.
Tickets for the event are £5 each and includes a drink on the evening, with the cost redeemable against a copy of the book.
