All ages welcome
We’re thrilled to be welcoming Laura Bates, author of Everyday Sexism and Men Who Hate Women , to Manchester to talk about her explosive new book FIX THE SYSTEM, NOT THE WOMEN – a rallying cry to reform the societal systems that are failing to protect women.
About the book:
Too often, we blame women. For walking home alone at night. For not asking – or asking forcefully enough – for a seat at the table. For not overcoming the odds that are stacked against them.
In this explosive book, feminist writer and activist Laura Bates lays bare the patterns of misogyny that harm and endanger us all. She exposes the systemic prejudice at the heart of five key institutions in our society.
Combining stories with shocking evidence, Fix the System, Not the Women is a blazing examination of sexual injustice and a rallying cry for reform.
About the author:
Laura Bates studied English at Cambridge University and went on to be a freelance journalist. She has written for the Guardian, the Independent, the New Statesman, Red Magazine and Grazia among others. She is also contributor at Women Under Siege, a New-York based organisation working to combat the use of sexual violence as a tool of war in conflict zones worldwide. She is the founder of the Everyday Sexism Project.
Doors: 6.30, event starts: 6.45
Tickets are £3 or free when pre-ordering a copy of the book. FIX THE SYSTEM, NOT THE WOMEN will also be available to purchase on the night and Laura will be signing copies after the talk.
