Join us at the National Football Museum for a special talk on football’s role during the First World War, on the playing field and the battlefield, with the museum’s very own Dr Alexander Jackson.

Dr Jackson’s book on the topic, Football’s Great War: Association Football on the English Home Front, 1914–1918, recently won the prestigious Lord Aberdare Literary Prize.

The museum’s esteemed curator will be exploring some of the topics covered in the book and on our galleries with fellow academic Dr Gary James, discussing everything from the Footballers Battalion to the women who kept the game alive at home.

Please note that tickets for all Football Writing Festival events are free with a valid National Football Museum admission ticket or for City of Manchester residents.
