Activism
MACFEST Muslim Arts and Culture Festival
In a third special collaboration with the Manchester Lit & Phil Society, we are delighted to host an ‘in-conversation’ event with Qaisra Shahraz and Erinma Bell.
The multicultural dream seems to be threatened from all sides by street riots, terror threats, knife crime, far-right thugs and draconian reaction. But, as always, there is hope to be found in human responses.
We bring together two eminent Mancunian women, Qaisra Shahraz MBE an award-winning British-Pakistani activist, novelist and the founder of MACFEST and Erinma Bell MBE, a British-Nigerian community peace activist, councillor and training provider, who have shown what can be achieved through outreach and tough love, to talk through the issues and plot a way forward.
Their conversation will tackle the issues of integration and identity, aspirations and fears, education and culture, drawing upon their own unique experiences to suggest solutions to pressing problems and longer-term aspirations for a coherent, progressive society.
Hosted by: Darryl Morris, award-winning broadcaster, filmmaker and writer.
Chief Guest: Ian Cameron, former President of Manchester Lit and Phil Society.
