Libraries change lives. Me and My Library is your chance to hear from library champions who are part of the local Manchester community and wouldn’t be without their library.

Sandra and Barbara from Gorton Library Coffee Morning

Sandra and Barbara run Gorton Library Coffee Morning on a Thursday, hear more about how libraries have changed their lives through community and togetherness, and kept them coming back to their local library for over twenty years.

Jay Mistry from Oldham Library

Jay sought out her local library when she had a business idea. Through the business support classes on offer at the library, her new business flourished! Not only that but Jay is a Dementia UK Ambassador and is keen to work with the library going forward to make sure more people know about the resources on offer through libraries to support those living with the condition, and those around them.

Yvonne and Cherril at North City Library

Sisters Yvonne and Cherril wouldn’t be without the Grand Day Out group at North City Library, they meet up socially to do a whole range of classes and sessions in the library itself, but also adventure out to days at the beach, theatre trips, gardens and meals out together each month. Hear them tell their library story and why the space and community is so important to them.

Gill and Janet from Knit and Natter at Oldham Library

Gill and Janet started visiting Oldham Library for a knitting class, but it soon turned into something so much more. They loved meeting new people and learning new skills, as well as flouting the age old taboo about libraries being quiet places… It’s just not true anymore! By nattering away and putting their new skills to use they’ve supported many charities and hospitals with their creations, and the library was a key element to supporting that by providing a free space which they are free to use however they like.
