Join Dr. Mounia Chekhab Abudaya as she explores Gazing at Mecca and Medina: Premodern Representations of the Ḥaramayn, a remarkable volume that gathers scholarly insights into how Mecca and Medina have been represented through time—across manuscripts, visual arts, and architecture.

The book includes fascinating case studies from regions such as Aceh and Bosnia, presenting fresh interpretations and elevating lesser-known materials.

A short screening from the Treasures of Islamic Art series features a rare meters-long ziyāratnāmah (Hajj certificate) and will be narrated by Dr. Mounia Chekhab Abudaya.

Presented by: Dr Mounia Chekhab Abudaya Ph.D., Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha, Qatar

Hosted by: Safia Florence Ascoli-Ball, Bayt Al-Hikma, Director and Movement Specialist & Taekwondo Instructor, freelance translator, part-time Pilates teacher.
