Círculo de Leitura da Comunidade da Língua Portuguesa em Manchester
Using O Alegre Canto da Perdiz as a starting point, this session will explore Mozambique through literature, stories and conversation, touching on its history, culture, traditions, identity and social realities.
Rather than being a traditional book discussion, the session is an opportunity to discover a country through its literature. O Alegre Canto da Perdiz will be the main reference work, but participants are welcome to bring their knowledge of, or interest in, any of Paulina Chiziane’s works.
You do not need to have read the book to attend. The event is open to readers and non-readers alike, and aims to create a welcoming space for cultural exchange, reflection and discovery.
What to expect:
The Círculo de Leitura is a community-based literary project founded in Manchester in 2019. Its mission is to promote reading as a way of bringing people together, encouraging critical thinking and creating opportunities to discover and understand different cultures and perspectives.
The project focuses on the Portuguese-speaking world, recognising that Portuguese is lived and experienced differently across communities and is not necessarily everyone’s first language.
Booking: Free to attend. Registration is recommended.
