One of Manchester’s longest running spoken word events, Verbose, returns on Monday 19th October 2026 at the Kings Arms.

Introducing our headliners for October:

Goodnighttheskye

Goodnighttheskye (they/them) is the agender flowergoth poet. Permanently preoccupied with what we shove under the bed, their poems refract their experiences through the lens of the frightening and fantastical, populating their pieces with ghosts, vampires, and minor deities. They write about monsters, moshpits, and the people who love them, and their debut collection, New Fables for Transformation, is available to purchase now.

The Hellpoet

When he is not haunting the corners of old churches, The Hellpoet is a queer, trans, British-Bangladeshi writer, poet, and performer based in Sunderland. You may recognise him from poetry nights across the North of England, or as the horrifying shape that appeared in your dreams that one time. Inspired by Brecht, Tom Waits, and all things Gothic, his work combines cutting wit and macabre sensibilities to convey the very real terrors of a marginalised existence. His debut chapbook, ‘Alternative Sermons‘, is available now.
