Open Call: Bremer Netzresidenz 2026/27

13 October 2026 - Opportunity

Bremen UNESCO City of Literature are looking for writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature for a three month scholarship focused on the engagement of literature in the public space.

The Bremer Netzresidenz is awarded every two years by the Literaturhaus Bremen with the support of the Bremen State Ministry of the Arts.

Funding is provided for the creation of an original literary project, created specifically for the grant. Digital media and formats can play a central role in the project, but favour will be given to those that remain visible in the public space in or around Bremen after the scholarship period is over.

The chosen project will take place virtually. The author’s location can be flexible during the stipend period and is not tied to the area of Bremen. However, the Literaturhaus can facilitate visits to Bremen if requested.

The online residency will take place from 1 March-31 May 2027. Following this, the writer will be invited to present their work to the public at a literary event in Bremen at a later date.

Eligibility

Writers should be from a UNESCO City of Literature, and have a publication record (subsidy publishers, self-publishing and e-books are excluded). The selected writer will receive a one-time stipend of €2500.

How to Apply

The deadline for submissions is 30 November 2026.

Applicants should send a project outline (3 x A4 pages) and a short CV to netzresidenz@literaturhaus-bremen.de

The project outline should include the idea, specific information on how it will be implemented, a cost projection and a work schedule.

After precise consultation, the Literaturhaus Bremen will cover any necessary material and project costs. The project outline for the application as well as any texts created during the scholarship period should not be AI-generated; if generative AI does have to be used as an aid (for example, in work organization, idea development, text revision or literature research), this must be identified by appropriate formulations and methodologically justified.

Please read the full information and eligibility criteria carefully before applying.
