Manchester were runners up in the global poetry slam competition ‘Slamovision’ between UNESCO Cities of Literature last year, this year we’re represented by Loll the Poet who will compete in Dublin this November.

Loll is an alternative poet hailing from Manchester. She is outspoken, loud and unapologetic. She weaves her words in a way that ensures you do not lose concentration and paints a picture in your mind with ease. She has many previous publications including her full collection of poetry titled FEWMIN. She has been featured in anthologies including ‘ey up’ and has been featured in magazines including Lavendre magazine, Stimmen der Rebellion (Germany) and gravy mag. Loll has been featured on BBC upload, has appeared on BBC Manchester radio late show and has done segments on reform radio, unity radio and allFM. Headlined countless shows and hosted shows in and around Manchester for the poetry community. She is ready to show you what she is made of and what she thinks of the city she calls home.

The ‘Eurovision for the Spoken Word’ has been contested since 2019 and is aimed at increasing cultural participation within individual cities as well as showcasing local talent on an international stage. The next round of voting will be closed judging within each city (although no city can vote for itself) as well as a parallel public vote.

This year will be the biggest Slamovision yet, with 18 UNESCO Cities of Literature taking part: Bremen (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Exeter (UK), Gothenburg (Sweden), Heidelberg (Germany), Iowa City (USA), Kozhikode (India), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Manchester (UK), Melbourne (Australia), Nottingham (UK), Odessa (Ukraine), Quebec City (Canada), Reyjkavik (Iceland), Slemani (Iraq), Tartu (Estonia), Vilnius (Lithuania), Wroclaw (Poland).

Last year Manchester was represented by Griot Gabriel, and his performance at Slamovision has been shortlisted for the Forward Prizes under Best Performance of a single poem.
