The ‘Eurovision for the Spoken Word’ has been contested since 2019 and is aimed at increasing cultural participation within individual cities as well as showcasing local talent on an international stage. The next round of voting will be closed judging within each city (although no city can vote for itself) as well as a parallel public vote.
This year will be the biggest Slamovision yet, with 18 UNESCO Cities of Literature taking part: Bremen (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Exeter (UK), Gothenburg (Sweden), Heidelberg (Germany), Iowa City (USA), Kozhikode (India), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Manchester (UK), Melbourne (Australia), Nottingham (UK), Odessa (Ukraine), Quebec City (Canada), Reyjkavik (Iceland), Slemani (Iraq), Tartu (Estonia), Vilnius (Lithuania), Wroclaw (Poland).
Last year Manchester was represented by Griot Gabriel, and his performance at Slamovision has been shortlisted for the Forward Prizes under Best Performance of a single poem.
