You want an ‘author brand’ in 2023 but what is author branding, and why does it matter?

Whether you’re an aspiring or published author, your presence and personality online is super important for approaching a publisher or agent (your professionalism and commitment to your craft evident by your online presence) and for selling more books (connecting with readers).
This course from Kenyon Author Services will focus on building you a community of supportive fellow authors and giving you practical skills, advice and mentoring along the way from Isabelle Kenyon.
Each platform requires a different approach for a writer looking to present themselves as a brand, and as an author online. We will look at how to organically reach more readers and form genuine, long-term relationships on social media, which will translate into visibility to agents/publisher/festival organisers as well as book sales.
Dates for Course (Times in UK time, GMT)
Thursday 11th May 7.30pm (45 mins)
Thursday 18th May 7.30pm (45 mins)
Thursday 25rd May 7.30pm (45 mins)

3 Zoom sessions each dedicated to different social media accounts and strategy. (Each session may extend to one hour, depending on any additional questions attendees may have per seminar/talk!)
Each presentation and resource links will be shared in full with participants after each session, so if you can’t make a date, you won’t miss out on content or the tasks set.
Suitable for complete beginners to social media and those ready to be more creative with their online strategy and content, as there will be core and stretch tasks set.
What to expect?
Each session will cover topics such as:
Individual social media demographics; your target audience on each platform and how to find them.
How to speak to your audience: author branding and personality online.
How to present your achievements online: as writers, we are our own best (or worst!) advocates – and if we can find the right balance between self-promotion/self-praise and personality online, we might just create new opportunities for our writing careers, attracting agents, event organisers and readers to our pages…
Setting up your page: optimizing the profile to present you as a writer and author.
What kind of content can you post? Case studies of good examples.
Increasing engagement and visibility for your posts with practical tips – we will look at how to beat the algorithms without having to invest money into social media advertising! How can we capture attention? What makes a good caption; a good visual? What tools are available on each platform to elevate our work?
Each Zoom session will set homework tasks for social media and engagement and success rates will be discussed as a group at the next session! Isabelle will be on hand throughout the month for any questions that you have for these.
Massive benefits of the course!
Access to an online community:
An online group will be created whereby all attendees of the academy can share links to their recent social media activity. The idea is that we will be able to like/retweet/share posts for each person, ensuring a large engagement from the offset. This online community will not be closed after the academy closes, so you will have lifelong access to this supportive community, ensuring ongoing support and boosted visibility of your social media presence!
You will receive an online author profile boost of your writing on the Kenyon Author Services social media accounts.
What will you need?
Willingness to create an account (or use an existing account) on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook throughout the course for yourself as a writer brand.
The online community will be created on Facebook, so you will need a personal page on Facebook to be added to this.

Costs for the full course:
Adult: £55
Student/Over 60s/In receipt of benefits: £45
