Heartstone & KFOR (The Kosovo Force)
‘KFOR and Kosovo +25’ is a photodocumentary exhibition by internationally acclaimed Heartstone photojournalist Nick Sidle.
Nick was embedded with several UK regiments in 2000 to document the human story of life after the 1999 war in Kosova, which devastated so many families through brutal ‘ethnic cleansing’.
This is a powerful story of hope and resilience in the aftermath of conflict, showing people rebuilding their lives and homes, and highlighting the role of the NATO-led KFOR peacekeepers, including soldiers from regiments in Greater Manchester, who helped bring safety, security and stability to all communities, laying the foundations of modern Kosova.
The exhibition on display at Sale Library presents a small selection of images from the full 100-image photostory, recently shown at The Holden Gallery in Manchester. On 12 June at Manchester Central Library, the story comes to life with a special event offering the opportunity to meet some of the soldiers and civilians featured in the images who have since been traced.
Please check the library opening times before planning your visit.
