Holt’s poems span over different periods of time in the her life, invoking a trivial childishness that is often fun on the surface, but carries a serious undertone.
It deals with notions of grief, belonging, and coming-of-age. ‘i can still hear you say my name’ invites the reader to interact with tipped in artefacts and to nosedive into strange nostalgia. Strange because it feels uncannily familiar, but at the same time like an intrusive act of voyeurism.
It also investigates how much weight objects still hold in our digital age. And how we project and retain emotions and memory through tactility and collection.
Charlotte Holt is an artist from Halifax, currently based in Manchester.
