Manchester’s award-winning spoken word event – every last Monday of the month at The King’s Arms! Verbose brings a vibrant mix of spoken word and live literature from a talented bill of open mic acts and wonderful headliners. Expect poetry, prose and everything in between from a real community vibe that gladly welcomes all newcomers.

HEADLINERS

ZAINAB IMRAN
Zainab Imran is a poet, tutor, zine-maker and English Literature student of British Pakistani heritage based in Manchester. She writes on a multitude of racial and queer issues, with a particular focus on ethnic diaspora and the hidden stories of women in the colonial struggle. They currently run the poetry collective, ‘Poets for Partition’. In 2022, she was awarded the Royal Society of Literature and Sky Arts Award for Poetry as an emerging writer of colour, through which she is now being mentored by Jay Bernard and is also currently working towards her first poetry pamphlet.

WILL STEVENSON
Will Stevenson is a writer, performer and rapper writing about class, otherness and connection. His debut poetry collection, ‘We Are Now Approaching’ is published in January 2023 by Bent Key Publishing. His work has been featured in anthologies for the Buzzin Bards and Mxogyny, on train-station walls with Northern Poetry Society and at festivals around the country. He co-hosts Switchblade Society with Michaela Violet, and you can find his music on all streaming platforms under the name Will Switchblade.
