Learn about Manchester Cathedral’s archival maps and get the opportunity to discuss your own personal research interests with Cathy Hirst.

This archive session with Manchester Cathedral’s Research and Editorial Officer Cathy Hirst will be divided into two parts.

The first session will explore the Manchester Cathedral map collection. Looking at various tithe, estate, and railway maps and plans. We will also have a wider discussion of the practice of cartography; looking at how the process of mapping has evolved overtime, and what maps can be used for. We will consider maps as a historical resource and as an artistic item.

The second part of the session will be an open discussion on your personal research. This will be an opportunity to discuss what you are working on, get feedback, and work through any issues/ find support with your work.
