A screening of the Ukrainian feature film ‘Stryi. The Legend’ as part of the Festival of Libraries 2025.

The events of the feature film ‘Stryi. The Legend’ (1h 20 min) takes place in the fourteenth century on the territory of the Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia, during the reign of the last ruler of the state, Yuriy Boleslav. This is a fascinating story about the foundation of the glorious royal city of Stryi.

Stryi, the son of a Saxon knight treacherously murdered by mercenaries, is adopted by a blacksmith from a small Ukrainian town in the Carpathians.  Decades later, the young man, who has lost his family, title and wealth, is faced with a new, even more difficult test. Will he be able to defend his honour, his loved ones, his love, his human values in the confrontation with the powerful, overbearing and cruel murderer local boyar Stefan?

The film was directed by Oleksandr Korol (chief director of the Lviv Academic Regional Music and Drama Theatre named after Yuriy Drohobych). Yuriy Drohobych).  Yuriy Komarnitsky – screenwriter, protagonist and producer of the film.
