Manchester City of Literature
Led by cartoonist Jim Medway, whose work has appeared in The Phoenix and DFC comics, the session begins with a short introduction to comics and character design before diving into a series of playful drawing games and creative exercises. Participants will explore how comics use simplicity, expression, speech bubbles and sequencing to tell stories, before working together to create a collaborative “jam comic”.
All materials supplied and no drawing experience is needed – just imagination, curiosity and a willingness to have a go.
Supported by The Phoenix, with free comic giveaways for children attending the session.
Adults are welcome to stay during the workshop. Only those taking part need a ticket – parents and carers who are simply accompanying children are welcome to relax with a tea or coffee while the session takes place.
This event is free to attend, though donations towards Levenshulme Old Library’s community programme are very welcome.
Places are limited. If you book and can no longer attend, please let us know so we can offer your place to someone else.
Suitable for children ages 7-13, although anyone who enjoy drawing and storytelling is also welcome.
